Do a driver road test on your phone

Fill the road test evaluation item by item during the drive, have you and the driver sign, and get a PDF. A pass is filed in the driver's documents as their Road Test Evaluation.

Who can use Road tests

The fleet owner and fleet staff with safety access can do road tests. In the sidebar, click Road Tests (staff find it under Safety Tools).

Fill the road test

Fill it on your phone from the passenger seat. Tap S, NI or U for each item as you go.

  1. Click Start road test.
  2. Choose the Driver. Only active drivers on your roster are listed. Drivers you set as Inactive, and accounts that are turned off, do not appear. Their Licence number, Licence class and Province / state fill in from their profile. Check and correct them if needed.
  3. Pick the Power unit and Trailer, and check the Test date and Start time. Add Distance driven (km or mi) and Route / location if you like.
  4. For every item, tap S (Satisfactory), NI (Needs improvement), U (Unsatisfactory) or N/A. A note box opens for NI and U so you can write what happened.
  5. The bar at the top counts how many items are rated. Click Mark the rest S to rate every item you have not touched as S.
  6. Under Result and sign-off, check the Overall result: Pass, Conditional pass or Fail. DriverPass suggests one: any U means Fail, and 3 or more NI means Conditional pass. A test with a U item cannot be a pass.
  7. Answer Additional training needed?, add Comments and recommendations, and check the Evaluator name and Title.
  8. Sign in the Evaluator signature box, then have the driver sign in Driver signature (acknowledges the result). Tap Clear to redo a signature.
  9. Click Save road test.

After the test

  1. The test opens as a PDF with Download PDF, Print and Open in new tab.
  2. A Pass or Conditional pass is filed in the driver's documents as their Road Test Evaluation. After a Pass, click Open driver to see it.
  3. If the result is Conditional pass or Fail, or you answered Yes to Additional training needed?, the page shows suggested next steps. Click Assign training, pick a date and click Schedule retest (the driver gets a notification), or click Start retest now.
  4. All tests are listed on the Road tests page with the driver, number (like RT-0001), result, date, unit, evaluator and any retest date.

Good to know

Every item must be rated, and both signatures are needed, before the test can be saved.

A failed test is kept on the record but is not filed in the driver's documents.

There is no edit button after saving. If something was wrong, do a new road test.

Your profile and the documents you upload are saved in your DriverPass account, not only on your phone. Sign in from any phone or computer to see them. If you can't sign in, tap Forgot password? on the sign-in page. If you lose a paper document, upload a photo of the replacement when you have it.
Yes. You'll get automatic alerts when documents are about to expire and can upload renewals directly from your phone.

For Shippers

Not as a report. Shippers use Secure Trip in DriverPass to follow their own loads. For a carrier's compliance documents, ask the carrier directly.

Compliance & Safety

We track license classes, medical cards, background checks, training completion, and more. You'll get alerts before anything expires.
DriverPass helps you keep the records. It stores driver files such as licences with their expiry dates, shows what is missing or expired, and sends reminders before a licence or document expires. Your fleet is still responsible for meeting DOT, FMCSA and provincial rules, and DriverPass does not give legal advice.
No problem. DriverPass lets you assign different compliance checklists by driver type so nothing falls through the cracks.
